HOW EVERYTHING STARTED -
The history of MOVE YA!

On 10th September 1999, two students - Frank Baumann and Anke Hauerwaas, went to the minor exchange Eimsbüttel to sign their trade certificate. That was the birth hour of MOVE YA!

1999 - WIE ALLES BEGANNHowever, MOVE YA! didn't emerge from nowhere. The real source lay nearly 2 years previously...

Frank remembers: "September 1997; I was working as a waiter at the Alster to finance my studies. When autumn came, this money source died and I wondered how I could make money using my love for music, other than working as a DJ.

Fate crossed my path through a friend's wife who was working as an aerobic trainer. She complained about the boring tapes which were available to trainers (at the time only Cover versions existed), and asked to produce a tape with my house music for her. Said, done! She liked the music but could not use it entirely because it included "breaks". She also said the mysterious "tension curve" wasn't perfect. So, I decided to learn about the wondrous world of aerobic music. I interviewed her and her colleagues until I knew everything that would make it better the next time.

In October 1997, the first tape of the brand "Work Out House" saw the light of day. At the time I still mixed the tapes live without computers and the master was copied on the double tape deck. Since I didn't own a professional record player, the tapes were mixed in my best friend's dusty attic. The order of titles and crossings had to be planned by the second, and in writing, so that passages with 16 count bows or breaks, we could make quick crossover mixes. Bad transitions and hectic movements were strongly forbidden. When the needle jumped after 44 minutes (something that didn't happen only once), the whole mix had to be started again Arrghh!

The consumer circle quickly increased with word of mouth. I realised the potential that lay in this niche product, so I planned to go on in a professional way after my studies. I searched for a business partner. The first candidate was Michael Strokosch, who distributed his own aerobic music brand and knew the business. He politely declined because he planned something similar with another company. This company started in 1998 under the name "Music-E-Motion".

In summer 1998, fate did well for me again. When working on the Kiez, I met Anke. Luckily there were only about 20 guests, because who knows if we would have ever met each other had it been more crowded. Despite Anke being a total fan of rock music, we somehow started talking about my music. When I introduced her to the boss of my favoured club, she got a job at the cashier and later at the door. From then on we saw each other every Saturday. Anke became my best friend and I, her "big brother".

HOW EVERYTHING STARTED

Beginning of 1999 I still wondered how to professionally start the marketing after my first examination block. The first thing crossing my mind was the name „MOVE YA. The sound was cool and suited 100% to what the trainers were supposed to do with my music: move! But the matching partner to really get going was still missing.

Anke remembers: "While working at "La Cage", I noticed that some women were given tapes by Frank to use for their aerobic classes. That was my first contact with aerobic music and I was surprised that something like that even existed. Wow, music for people who do sports as an own product. How exotic!

The following months working together in the nightlife scene, Frank and I became close friends; sometimes on the costs of my nerves. Here's a small taste of what I mean. One day, Frank's printer broke down and he urgently had to send out a serial letter to his clients. He convinced me to use my company's printer. He was soon stood with disc in hand at Mercedes Benz Hamburg (where I had my main job), in front of my office saying, "That is soooooo sweet of you. Won't take long". We had a printer blockade of 2.5 hours and I received my first grey hairs. :) Thank god I didn't have to print for him again.

Very soon the next much bigger adventure started.

Frank had set his mind on making me his perfect counterpart in making MOVE YA! a success. There he was again, the Frank who knew what he wanted!"

Frank says: "I appreciate Anke's talents that I don't have. I just grabbed her in July 1999 and simply asked: "I want to produce aerobic music professionally starting in autumn. Do you want to join me?"

She wanted to..

1999

In the middle of September, the big adventure started. The first MOVE YA! office was opened in Anke's shared flat. Only 20sqm with 3 desks, 3 computers, 1 fax, 3 telephones, 2 cats – and us somewhere in between. We could start!
Anke took care of the client calls, studio tours with CDs on hawkers trays, the sending of parcels and the book keeping. She had support from a girlfriend and everybody who shared the flat. Frank mixed the first MOVE YA! CDs into the middle of the night at home on his PC – much to Anke´s satisfaction - not so much to his neighbours`. Apart from this big assignment, Frank also took care of the CD and flyer design.
Money from the banks was unthinkable ("What? You want to sell aerobic music? We can give you an account but it must always run in the positive"). With that, the hard-saved 15.000 starting capital was quickly spent and they both crossed their fingers, hoping it wouldn't "go down the drain".
On October 2nd 1999, the first eight CDs were released: Step Experience, Power Aerobic, Spinning, Black Attack, Underground Club Sound, Latin House and Disco 2000.

The year 1999

At the beginning of December that year, the first convention came: "Crazee X-Mas" in Damp. The MOVE YA! team got to know this fascinating sub-culture and was greeted with positive vibrations from all sides. This encouraged the founders, as it proved that their philosophy of "being different" was the right way to go.
After these first experiences, MOVE YA!'s philosophy was slowly born: to give the client the perfect product for their classes. The product was supposed to motivate the participants and create a lust for more. This was manifested in all future actions and the main intention in every thought.

2000

As the "New Kid on the Block", MOVE YA! was greeted by some competitors in the beginning. This changed when we met the active competition in February at the first big convention (SAFS & BETA in Hamburg). The year 2000 We were a real eye-catcher - coloured wigs and dancing acts all whilst selling. We wanted to be "different", close to the trainer, not boring. It was supposed to be fun, just like our music. It was designed to be felt. Frank played live music in the classes supported by a bongo drummer. He was later at the 5m high exhibition stall playing the drums as if his life depended on it. The scene had never seen anything like it and the trainers loved it. The competition woke up and the challenge was there.

As we became more professional, we needed a new company logo. As Frank and Anke waited on Hamburg´s Fischmarkt in the bright sunlight for a business date, Frank started to scribble on a napkin. The unique MOVE YA! figure was born.

With a lack of finance, but many big ideas, we had our first show at the biggest convention of that time - the Bodylife convention in Karlsruhe. Frank built the exhibition stall himself for four days. The first presenters noticed us and the stall was well visited. This reassurance from the clients gave Frank and Anke enough motivation not to give up, but to follow their own path. In hindsight, a wise decision!
Small marginal note: at that time in March, a CD was released which Anke had requested but Frank looked at sceptically ("I hate radio…… blah, blah"): The Chart Attack...

2001

MOVE YA! were now five people. Frank finished his studies with a diploma in sales, while Anke spent a few more years at university. The company had slowly spread into all rooms at Anke´s shared flat. For many of Hamburg's presenters, it was part of their weekend entertainment to shop at anytime in Anke's flat – preferably Sunday lunch time. The year 2001 At the same time, they received more and more complaints from Frank's neighbours. It was inevitable: a new, really big office had to be found. We found cheap rooms in Luisenweg 7, where we still feel very happy to this day. At first, it was only half the floor with three rooms, but that was to change. Slowly but surely, we became a growing little company.

At our second FIBO, we were placed right next to the bodybuilding stage. This is something that hasn't changed since 2005. If you have any questions about protein supplements, just ask at our stand!
On the international trade scene, more and more traders such as DTB-shop and the HORN-Verlag took on our products. Also, internationally we took our first steps with the fitness store in Zurich. A special thanks to you, dear Hedy!
At the end of the year we once again looked for more staff. Who should come in soaking wet after a bicycle ride through the door for a job interview? Henrike, who has become Anke´s right hand, staying for eight years and still going.

2002

At the beginning of the year we had a nice number of regular clients, but the development of the company didn't quite proceed as we had hoped for. Like any start-up company, we fought with high costs and really wanted to produce very different CD projects. The solution was to produce the CDs in Belgium due to much lower licence costs, which made it possible to release our favoured double- CDs. The year 2002 In spring that year, we were finally there - all CDs were released as double-CDs. This method, and the distinctive setting of our CDs, brought us many new clients and closer to our target of becoming number one in Germany closer than ever.

Our high music quality was talked about abroad and soon distribution was spread to Austria, Spain, France and Sweden. This growth led to a further increase in the MOVE YA! team. New fully employed team members included Maren (who came to rock in various fields for us in the future), Christiane (our first "Grande Dame" graphic designer) and Sven (our exhibition magician).

Further more, MOVE YA! started a, for the times, revolutionary online shop with Tom, our "Master Of Flash". With the increasing demand for CDs and Franks deep rings under his eyes, one thing became clear: we needed a second DJ, but who? Frank was, and still is very strict concerning the quality of music and this quality was to be preserved. So who to take on?

Fate made it possible for Anke to meet Andy, the DJ of "Beats Unlimited", at the Bodylife Convention in 2001. After continuous contact (and several hints at open doors which only had to be walked through), in June that year the first mutual CD followed. His incredible musical and sporty know-how were the perfect match for Frank's creativity and feeling for sales hits. Our CDs became even better from that point on and Frank's rings under the eyes became less apparent.

2003

This year would prove to be extremely turbulent. The demand nationally and internationally increased constantly. Four CD series celebrated their birth and have gone on to become real bestsellers: Hot Iron, Fit Over 60, Drums Alive and It's Partytime. Additionally, we produced our first self-branded videos and the first MOVE YA! Collection started.

The year 2003

Things went well until suddenly dark clouds appeared. The aerobic licence contract with our production company in Belgium was resigned and had new conditions placed upon it. Double-CDs were now suddenly financially impossible. While all others kept producing their CDs within this new contract, we contacted the most important record labels in Germany and Europe to buy their music directly. The companies liked our products and the philosophy, and made licence contracts directly with us. The future of MOVE YA! was saved.

We were still lacking a clear strategy for all our future ambitions. That would soon change in two ways. For her final work at university, Anke had to write a business plan for MOVE YA!. Four people got together, amongst them a certain Hauke, whose services were retained by Anke for MOVE YA!. Hauke became her right hand man and is now assistant CEO.
The business plan was an important milestone in our history. It was the basis for securing our success and the future of our vision to "capture the fitness world". Already in 2003, we were harvesting the first fruits of our labour with further partners in Slovenia, Hungary and Norway.

At the end of the year, MOVE YA! was split into two companies. It made sense to have clearer borders between the various fields. Frank took care of the CD production as CEO of Pure Pleasure Music (including licensing), and Anke took care of distribution (amongst other things) as CEO of MOVE YA!

2004

The turbulence of 2003 slowly diminished and the relationships with the record labels started to pay off. With the direct buying of music rights from the labels, we were able to sell some of our CDs all over the world - and finally in the USA. The capture of this market had always been a dream, especially with Frank.

The year 2004

In January we decided at short notice – typical for our planning mentality – to start our US conquest tour with a stand on the ECA in New York. Anke, Frank and Hauke went to New York to create their luck there. What was waiting for us? Would people like the CDs? Wonderful chaos was waiting for us, but it was crowned a success due to our passion and the engagement of our presenters. The Americans were more than just interested in our "new music label from Germany". Robert, Marc-Oliver and Calvin presented their latest CDs with people grabbing them from our hands after the classes.

Some months later, IDEA in Las Vegas followed and we slowly realised that this country was a little bit too big for us. It also showed us that the East Coast and West Coast were not alike. Luckily we found a partner that knew the market and suited us - Sportswave!

Back in "good old Europe", we were lucky to find through the IFAA in Germany, the perfect representatives and partners for our products in England, Australia, Poland, Japan, Russia, Denmark, Finland and Estland. With these new co-operations, the CD output grew so much that we had to have support from Sascha for our ever-overburdened graphic department. Frank once again had more room to keep on producing ideas, which kept us breathless all the time.

2005

The year 2005

This year was to be a year with peaks and valleys. Together with the IFFA, we produced the first "Bo:Tastic" collaboration. Our series "Greatest Hits Remixed" was born, and we started with "bodyfacts" on the DVD-market. Finally we could offer our clients high-end fitness DVDs at a fair price.

Another highlight saw the light of day in the world of music - our DJ SESSIONS. Via Frank and Andy's close contact with the record labels, a real jewel in our product portfolio emerged. We could use DJs like Markus Gardeweg, Milk & Sugar, Global Deejays, DJ Antoine and world star ATB for this annual highlight.

In May, Frank and Andy were for the first time, the "MOVE YA! DJ Team" on tour, having rocked for two year previously at the "People in Motion" conventions. On their first fitness week in Ibiza, this remained the same. Every class and every night on the beach was a highlight!

One CD was the absolute highlight of the year - Dance-Aerobic vol. 6 from Marc-Oliver. People literally grabbed it from our hands after the release. The relationship with Marc-Oliver had reached its peak.

At the end of the year, we surprisingly separated from "People in Motion", which wasn't easy after the mutual success of the past years. It was especially hard for Frank, who had from the very beginning, looked at the teamwork shared with Marc-Oliver as something special. But, when one door closes another one opens, and that is what happened. Through the door came a young talent named Balázs Füzessy. His first CD hit the market like a bomb and did much more than only replace Marc-Oliver.

There was so much to do and so much at stake. We were really happy to welcome more people into the team. Coco and Iris joined and, like every single one in the team, were a super addition. We were ready for 2006!

2006

The year 2006

After the success of the first "Dance Sensation" with Balázs, we decided to make a whole series with different presenters. We developed super CD projects with wonderful personalities like Patric Lauruhn, Rebecca Small and Christiane Reiter. Finally, they could realise their own personal musical style.

Most of our new presenter CDs incorporate a revolutionary and sometimes daring style for the aerobic scene. Time and again, we aim to show our philosophy to "be innovative and try things away from usual standards". Also the close teamwork with the genius Andi Goller and no-less genius Danny Arnold, brought forward really great CD projects. The large amount of presenters we were working with needed taking care of 24/7; an assignment for Superman... or ... Super Coco! :)

Due to the constantly growing production volume, new co-operations with partners such as fitness fx and new markets in Belgium, Czech Republic and the Netherlands, we were hungry for more staff. The fitness music company "Aerobix" stopped producing and we hired their DJ Mario Ropertz for our own use. Mario was a perfect match with our DJ team and suits us superbly with his open character and reliability.

Assignments were somehow piling up in every corner. Saint Annette came in for Customer Service and Thorsten, a jack-of-all-trades, for the web department. That was mainly due to the silly delay of nearly 12 months on our new web shop, which went online on 12.10.2006 at 0.36. The constant improvement of processes and programming with the waiting had been worth it.

Our DJ team had travelled the world by now. No matter if it was Spain, England, Hungary or Heidelberg at the IFAA Convention - presenters and participants were overwhelmed and the mood in classes was sensational every time. All this accounted for what finally became true in the following year...

2007

MOVE YA! had an early dream: its own convention! The convention we were thinking of needed to be different and in our hometown of Hamburg. With the IFFA, we had found the ideal partner for the project. It needed to be more than just a commercial convention, so we all put a lot of creativity and devotion into it. After some months of planning and with all-star presenters from the scene, on December 7th it started - VIBRATIONS 2007!

The year 2007

The rooms were far too small, so we quickly had to rent a tent for outside. The DJ team were rocking their hearts out in the big hall and the entire team did everything to make all the participants happy. Because of the great crush, there are quite a few memorable anecdotes to tell. Lucia had to interrupt her class because the ceiling was bending dangerously from the above-stomping Tae-Bo-crowd. Andy Goller nearly needed an oxygen mask because his class was so overloaded, and in the outside tent, the oil for the heater was used up before the first class from a freezing night watchman. Even though there were a few difficulties, it was a memorable and great event. Not least because of our presenters who gave everything. It was clear to us right away that there would be a VIBRATIONS every year from that point.

As there was more work every year, some of us decided to solve the staffing problem ourselves by producing offspring. The stork came four times. Anke and Coco started, with Maren and Christiane waiting until 2008. Anke and Hauke heard on a regular basis that year, "I have to tell you something."

MOVE YA!´s future was safe in any case. The baby breaks made the staff carousel turn around again. In the graphic department, Dodo blew in with new creative wind and Yvi did the same in the Customer Service department. With Inge in distribution and Michi as a new trainee, we became a new dream team, providing a full service for our clients.

2008

Our quietest year so far - at least without any great excitement :).
With Sandra as our bookkeeping expert, and the super trainees Katharina and Yvonne, our staff team increased to 23. This mixed bunch wants new assignment feeding every day. Anke and Hauke decided to go to a seminar together with the team. These three days proved legendary and gave us all a further push, forming the basis for coming projects.

The year 2008

By now, over 80 CDs had to be produced. We increased our DJ team with another artist – "DJ Mixmaster". This gave us the opportunity for further, super innovative CD projects with Sebastian Piatek and Tom Woll. We also had new partners in AeroNet and IST that made us very happy.

Our product range incorporated nearly everything by now, apart from country music :). From the classic fitness CD for all classes, up to exotic and functional productions like "Aroha", "Dance Reggae" and "TriloChi".

With the passionate support of our trader in England, JUMPYBUMPY, we made the breakthrough into the very difficult English market. We made waves on and with the event in Blackpool. Our DJ team didn't only play live in classes (which was new in UK), but also took care of screaming party people at the aftershow-party.

On the 6th December, the next VIBRATIONS began; this time in a bigger location - the ETV. We were curious if so many people would come again, or if some would turn their back on us due to last year's problems. The opposite was the case. Again, VIBRATIONS was fully booked in advance and this time everything went well; no bending floors or sauna/arctic atmosphere. Satisfied, happy faces made for a very glad MOVE YA! and IFAA team. Afterwards, they nearly, but only nearly complained about the few catastrophes. Our effort was worth it, and in a good mood we could start our 10th year.

2009

Even last year, Frank and Anke were thinking about what to do for the 10th anniversary. It should be something special, which also had a long-term effect. The old offices were too small and not really modern, so moving seemed to be the logical consequence.
They couldn't find a location which was good enough, so they decided to stay in the Luisenweg and just renovate everything. After some months of re-doing where everyone was placed, the holy halls have been shining new since August. The good feeling for another 10 years has been established.

On the 29th August, the first 10 years celebrated with a great highlight. Together with 150 friends, partners and people who joined along the way, we celebrated in Hamburg's harbour in the sunshine and in the typical Hamburg rain. The party was overwhelming and gave us all the reassurance that what we have done during the last 10 years can't have been completely wrong.

2010 - ???

MOVE YA! is now a standard destination for all trainers. This is not only thanks to our two great strong-willed leaders, but also thanks to the entire team and all its individual characters. This sometimes explosive mix gives us the important energy and drive to push MOVE YA! further.

The love for what we do, the music, our clients, products and team's passion for working for MOVE YA!, have made MOVE YA! what it is after 10 years, and will stay for the next 10 years: DIFFERENT!
We are definitely looking forward to going into the future with our partners and clients, to face the challenges that the changing times bring and to successfully meet them.

We have a lot to go for!

MANY THANKS to all friends, partners and customers!

10 years have gone by. . . unbelievable! I would have never thought that my crazy idea to finance my studies would turn out to be something so big.

When you take all the successes, ups and downs of the last 10 years, nothing has really changed about what is most important about MOVE YA! No, not the money! Honesty, loyalty and reliability, amongst each other and also for the clients and partners, have always been the most important qualities. One of the greatest things to come out of the last 10 years is that my friendship with the most wonderful woman on earth and mother of my sweet godchild still lasts. Thank you, Anke!

For me it is still extremely important to be creative, to work in a super team and to realise my own (sometimes crazy) ideas. After nearly 12 years, my heart still starts beating faster and I get a surge of adrenalin when I hear one of our CDs in my fitness studio. What could be greater than that!

Anke and I have established the company and built the basis for later growth, but thanks to our wonderful team, MOVE YA! has become something so great that we are known and appreciated all over the world. To see that EVERYBODY in our team believes in the idea of my dream is an amazing feeling.

I'm really looking forward to the next 10 years!

It was really not my plan to become self-employed!

While we tried to sell as many CDs as we could in the beginning (I was an expert with hawker's-trays), I realised what we were about to create - something very vivid. Simply a superb product that combined sport and music, that "lives", generates desire and motivates. The whole thing still creates desire every single day for more new products and product ideas.

MOVE YA! soon became more. It gave me the chance to combine my dream of work, private life and family at the same time. I wanted to work in a team of people who had the same ideas and yet were totally different. My main intention has always been, and still is, to have people around me who I like. I dislike being with people who create a bad mood within me in the mornings, where I'm already thinking about the discussions I will have with them.

It has always been my goal to have a creative team that understands the idea behind MOVE YA! Team members who "live" it just like me – even though it isn't always easy. That is what makes the MOVE YA! spirit for me. It is my task to hold on tight to the steering wheel and steer the ship into quieter waters when the sea gets rough. I love this task and do it with a strong belief.

Looking back at both my own and Frank's, and the entire team's passion, I am sure that we will also offer great innovative products for the next 10 years. That will make your heart beat faster for MOVE YA!

Well, how did I ever get here? I was crazy enough to sit next to Anke in class during our studies. That's how it was when the question came up as to what could be a project for our diploma. Anke suggested her own aerobic music company. I said, "Nooo…sounds logical . . . an aerobic music company . . . sounds really exciting!" From the student work on writing a business plan for MOVE YA!, which was later the cornerstone for our going global, a part-time job emerged. This quickly became a fulltime job and a fixed part of my life. It's a job where I feel I can still conquer the world, all under the sympathetic nodding of the "Music Man".

From the beginning, I was fascinated by the vision of MOVE YA! and the potential of the products which really only existed in the minds of Frank and Anke. To always stay close to the client and put them at the centre of activities, to keep developing new things. Just don't stop and never breathe! :) To do all of the above, and do it mostly at the very last minute - that was always somehow my style :)

Over the years, I have the feeling that this vision is what all our employees shared. This shared vision is what has made the biggest part of our success and is the reason for the team's large identification with the brand.

Along with the founders, we have a great amount of strong characters working in the company, which lord knows isn't always easy, providing daily challenges. But the engagement, the creativity and the passion from my colleagues, together with a great sense of humour, pay me back in many ways. That accounts for the great team - I'd like to place another strong thank you here boys and girls.

Enjoying my work so much is also due to the many great people I got to know through the job - cooperation partners, presenters and distributors of which many became friends. Also of course, our many, many wonderful clients. I just like all you chorus girls of this world, not least because you share our passion for music, sport, the brand and most importantly, the humour!

MUSIC IS MY INSPIRATION! So often during the last seven years, I have not slept, spending my time instead on fine-tuning a CD. It must be perfect, otherwise I don't have any peace of mind. Why do I work nightshifts instead of playing with my two sweet daughters in the morning? Why don't I drop my pen at 6 o'clock and go home? Why am I so crazy? There is only one answer. Because it's fun!

MOVE YA! allows me to live my 100% passion for music. The mixture of music and sport has been formative since my younger days. I have accompanied the entire development of fitness sport since the beginning of the 80s. I have now been active in this crazy scene for over 25 years. I've spent a long time as a trainer/presenter for all class types and always saw myself as "creator", producer and DJ in my classes.

I love the exceptional, off the beaten track, crazy, special things. MOVE YA! stands for the outstanding. In a team of positively "crazy" people, it is fun every day to develop concepts and realise them to the highest degree. It is my main intention to pass this fun attitude and love for music on to our devoted fans and clients and have them be enthusiastic for our products. BE DIFFERENT - BE MOVE YA!

At the beginning of 2005, I got an email from Pure Pleasure Music that I was supposed to pay licences for a title I had used. I called to solve the case.

With all weapons at hand and prepared for a nasty conversation, I soon found out that this Mr Baumann was a nice guy. We chatted for nearly 30mins about the branch and I told him later that we were about to give up "Aerobix" for time reasons. He said, more as a joke, "if you need someone doing some of your productions, let me know (smile)."

Three months later, I got an email asking if I was still interested. Since then, we have made many productions together and have become a good team. I am impressed with every production - how much love and work is put into every title of each CD. Everything always has to be perfect and that is super. For the future, I can only say that if we continue like that, then I'm looking forward to more great years with you!

How did I come to be at MOVE YA! ? On my bicycle going the wrong way through the pouring rain! For my job interview with Anke, I sat there like a wet mouse in the MOVE YA! kitchen. Since Anke wasn't frightened off by my wet appearance (or took pity on me), I have been part of the team since November 2001.

I only just missed the "living room phase" of the company. When I started with MOVE YA!, all our offices were in the new rooms in Luisenweg and they were still on one floor. There were two employees and three students – incredible when you think about it today. My original 20 hours as a poor student worker were handled very flexibly in the first year. Nightshifts together with Frank and Anke until 10pm weren't seldom. Frank's production location wasn't soundproofed at that time, so we were constantly pushed onwards by the bass – wonderful. That bonds people like nothing else!

I've seen MOVE YA! grow for the last 10 years. I've grown with the company and partly grown up a little myself. What makes MOVE YA! for me, is the reason why I'm still here - the fact that we are such a young team. We have our own sense of humour and this humour always helps us in times of heavy workloads and stressful situations. It makes the team stick together.

Over the last few years, I have met many wonderful people from the fitness branch, who help to make my "normal" office job never boring. That's why I like to work here and hope to do so for many more years!

I have always played MOVE YA!'s music in my classes, even when MOVE YA! didn't really exist. Over 10 years ago, Frank was introduced to me in my studio, the Kaifu-Lodge, as THE DJ for aerobic music. That's how I came by my first CDs.

Even though I've only been working for 4 years for MOVE YA!, I have been watching their steep rise. My role as monitor and CD-user changed when Hauke spoke to me at a convention in England, asking if I wanted to work for MOVE YA! Of course! After all, I had known Anke, Frank and Andy for years and it was about time to change something in my life. As it turned out it was exactly the right decision.

During the last years, I have learned and experienced a lot at MOVE YA! Due to my long years of working as a presenter, I know many of our partners personally and can therefore understand the "other side" much better. That doesn't always help, but it makes the work with, and for our partners much easier. Two years ago I started, with my son Willy, the "MOVE YA! Next Generation". I was followed by Anke with Leonie, Christiane with Lilly, Maren with Bo and Yvi with Ben. MOVE YA!'s succession is taken care of. :)

I am a real MOVE YA! prehistoric rock. I was really there on founder's day, even though I wasn't part of it then.

Anke was living with my former boyfriend. One night they drank to the MOVE YA! establishment in the kitchen. The first CDs where produced and we put them into envelopes while drinking wine in the kitchen. I became more and more involved, taking care of the database, going to exhibitions and so on.

The shared flat was dissolved. I left my boyfriend but stayed in touch with Frank and Anke. One day while we were eating out together, Anke asked me if I wanted to work for MOVE YA! I would have liked to but didn't want to give up my work as a physiotherapist. So, I started doing a bit of everything. Anke´s comment in January 2002: "You know how to use the phone and the computer a little bit, don't you?"

After a short stop in the customer service department, I landed in book keeping and on the exhibitions. I am very happy that I have found my place in the MOVE YA! family after coming from the side entrance. It is so much fun to work in this super team and I'm really proud of what MOVE YA! has become after 10 years.

Happy Birthday dear MOVE YA! Stay as healthy as you are. You're quite grown up now, hopefully puberty won't be too bad. :)

guidance and programming webshop

In the beginning of 2002, when MOVE YA! heard that I was co-author of the book "Music for Flash", Anke and Frank asked me if I wanted to build an online shop for them. It was said and done!

When the shop was nearly ready, Frank came to my home so we could do the fine-tuning together before the release. Just a small note, I was a heavy smoker at the time (stereotypical of the crisps-eating and smoking programmer) and Frank was strictly non-smoking and a health freak. The poor guy. With red eyes turning even redder after each of my cigarettes, and a swollen throat, we finished the first piece of art for the MOVE YA! shop in early summer 2002. We were overwhelmed.

Frank survived and I have quit smoking for many years. I do lots of sport – crisps are cancelled. The shop went online and was great fun for the clients, because they could listen quickly and easily get to the target music.

Anke and Frank were also part of many updates and new features. All that didn't happen without us becoming friends. Very often during our meetings, private things suddenly come first. Especially with Anke, who always has an open ear for that type of thing, which is very good for me to know.

Today we are close friends and I must say, I wouldn't want to miss it. My family has become part of the MOVE YA! family. We all pull on one rope and that we pull with full power – until finally everything is finished.

That is what I love, cool products and developing solutions for our clients with friends who honour and adore it – there's nothing better.

Cool, cool, cool…Happy Birthday MOVE YA! Here's to the next 10 years.

web & media design, online marketing execution

In 2006, I applied for a trainee position in the web department of MOVE YA! After I helped to finish our new shop (at the time), I kind of stayed around.

Since then, I've been mainly in charge of everything around the internet and newsletter, responsible for traffic and good design. It is fun to work here because there are always new challenges. Everything moves, you can live your creative ideas, it never gets boring and everything is possible.

The interaction is very warm and friendly thanks to our wild bunch of characters being thrown together. Time and again this leads to great laughter. "This is canteen, I work here"!

My dear friend Tom took me along to MOVE YA! nearly 4 years ago and showed me where he worked. Since MOVE YA! at the time was looking for someone who could assure that their web shop was found easily in the internet, Tom arranged an interview with Anke. She said "okay" and I was led into the holy halls.

Since that time, I come to the office once or twice a week as a freelancer and give my best so that the website www.move-ya.de stays #1 on Google.

To work with a happy, relaxed team, and to be part of the whole MOVE YA! business, means I'm happy both here and at home, where I do the other half of my work. Animation and problems are discussed and realised in the shortest time and that is fun! The handling is friendly and yet professional - what more could you want! :)

media design, photography and technical support

It all began 27 years ago – YES, 27! As a five-year-old I hit every single computer button full of fascination, amazed by the cryptic responses on the green monitor resulting from that. I got my first computer at the age of 7, a C16!

I worked as a photo assistant at the age of 20 gaining my first experiences with Macs and Photoshop. During my apprenticeship as media designer a phone call from Christiane drove me directly into Anke's office and after a vast number of cigarettes (yes yes, those were the times smoking was still allowed) I sold my soul to the MOVE YA!-family...

Realizing that MOVE YA! needed more support in the web department than I could provide, I immediately thought of a fellow student from my school. He swore the holy MY!-family oath as well and has become a close friend of mine over the time. We are four media designers by now – screwed solidly as creative board cannons to the MOVE YA!-copter...

Nearly suffering from burnout on regular terms, you may ask why I'm still here after more than five years and do not ring the funny farm?? Well, in the end it comes down to the indescribable relationship to my colleagues and having become a true member of the MY!-family - besides that, I can not only live out my wild enthusiasm for digitality, but also my distinct audio-fidelity!

The word "family" comes up over and over again, but there is nothing more suitable to describe MOVE YA! We quarrel and make up, argue and arrange, cry and laugh – all that gives the ordinary office routine a very human face, all that can't be compensated by regular working hours or lettuce...

To the next 5/10 years! From '$U$hiM@n who alles c@n...'

media design and CD check

In a colleagues class, I heard a MOVE YA! CD for the first time. I bought it myself and was infected right away by the MOVE YA! virus. That was in 2000 and I still have the CD – my first "Step Experience". :)

Further trainer instructions followed and many CDs were bought. In the middle of 2002 I sent a blind application to MOVE YA! and Anke contacted me right away offering me a traineeship. After four months, I finished as a media designer and in June 2003 started working fulltime in the (at the time) non-existant graphic department.

Up until that point, Frank had done ALL the graphic work ALONE into the middle of the night. As I was doing a good job, he kept me on. The MOVE YA! "gossip salon" was born! More creative heads followed and at present, we have four team members.

What bonds me with MOVE YA! is my job as a trainer, the music, the daily chaos and my beloved colleagues. I've never had so much fun at work, but also never so much stress. This typically starts with very urgent newsletters and works its way up to 32 count checks into the middle of the night.

Even though I'm only working half days after the birth of my sweet Lilly, I am still as alert as I've ever been over the last seven years. You have to LIVE MOVE YA! and I still do that after 7 years!

Happy Birthday, MOVE YA!

media design

As long as I have been able to think, I've been engaged with the subject of design in many ways – as a drummer, designer, in decoration, illustrator, painter or just general artist.

All that for me, is a way of life and makes sense of life. In short, we should aim to design the world – as much as possible- actively.

In the middle of 2007, I heard from (at the time just a friend - now colleague) Christiane that due to her pregnancy, there was a vacant position in the company she worked for. I thought, "WOW, THEY ARE WORKING WITH MUSIC!"

After my research about MOVE YA!, and a really pleasant job interview, it was quickly clear that this was something for me! I like music and sport and love to design, so I got the chance to work as a substitute for somebody pregnant (coincidently, my wife was also pregnant. :) )

I was welcomed openly and warmly by my new colleagues and shortly afterwards, my daughter Greta was born, completing my private happiness!

I soon dived into the rocking world of MOVE YA!, which is completely influenced by rocking design assignments and crazy characters.

I love being here because the products bring "movement" into the life of many "moving" people, also keeping alive many of the holistic aspects of life. The MOVE YA! team is professional and human-wise a great win.

Aloha + Rock'n'Roll!

accounting and controlling

Four years ago, a friend gave me the hint that MOVE YA! was looking for someone to do the bookkeeping. Since then, I've been taking care of placing the numbers correctly and giving the management a clear overview of the business.

I enjoy working independently and get the chance to take on responsibility and develop solutions myself. MOVE YA! is always on the move and innovative, so assignments are never boring.

Our team consists of very different characters and that makes the unique charm of the company. Humour is always on the agenda! I can be what I am here and even run around in my house shoes.

The compensation for the bookkeeping mania and Excel-fetish I have is privately in sewing clothes for Barbie dolls and drawing cartoons. My absolute favourite CD is "Best of Grand Prix"!!!

Sport has always been a big part of my life; my passion for fitness showed up later. In 2006 I started my training for group fitness with the necessary qualifications to make my hobby a profession. Through a trainer colleague, I learned about the MOVE YA! CDs and quickly my CD case filled up with their music. One case isn't enough anymore, it's too full from all the great music. :)

In November 2008, I received an email from MOVE YA! where they were looking for support in the book keeping. Spontaneously, I tried my luck and applied. After the extremely nice job interview, it was clear to me that I wanted to work for MOVE YA! It is a pleasure to rock in the "book keeping with a difference" together with my colleague Iris. My connection with the job is not only supported by our super team but also by my passion for music and fitness.

Keep going! Happy Birthday!

customer service guidance

In summer 2006, I received an email from MOVE YA! where they were looking for a trainee. When I read it, I kept thinking, "they must mean me!" So I couldn´t do anything but apply for the job. Two days later I sat in front of Hauke and a week later I had my contract. They really did mean me! :)

After my traineeship, there was no doubt about continuing to work here and so they took me on fulltime.

For three years I've been working in the customer service department. For me, working for MOVE YA! was definitely the right decision in turning my life around.

We are a super, young team always laughing a lot. When things sometimes are a bit chaotic because of lots of work, we always get things done in the end.

customer service and CD check

When I dived into the fitness branch, I had already worked as a passionate trainer, and of course, passionate trainers use CDs from MOVE YA!

Since I come from Hamburg, I had always collected my CDs personally in the office. I always bought new CDs, so was constantly in and out of Luisenweg 7. I soon became Frank's chosen "32 count-checker".

MOVE YA! was looking for a new client service person, so I suddenly had the chance to exchange my life as a trainer for a fulltime employment at MOVE YA! The work in customer service was great fun right away. I was still giving classes and could try out our product range and recommend it with a good conscience. This was also helpful on my many exhibition jobs.

At the moment I am on education holidays, but still check out CDs and help the team out with hints and tips.

The great thing about my job at MOVE YA! has always been that it was never a normal job. Yvi as a banker or tax employee? Impossible!

Even now where I manage my own little family business I often think of my MOVE YA! family. Don't forget me!

logistics, warehouse administration and trade show planning

One day our exhibition stall builder (and at the same time my new partner) Sven said to me, "can you drive a 7.5 ton lorry?" "Yes, in theory..." "Super, then get it from the car rental and collect the equipment for the exhibition. I have something else to do and will follow". Three hours later and with an average speed of 40 km/h, I had done everything. I was extremely proud of myself, only to find Sven wasn't there.

The exhibition we were going for was FIBO. Some years later (with some building work at night, last second wishes, loading and un-loading), and with much more experience, we went to the FIBO again. Not with sandpaper and drill to repair desktops last minute, but this time to advise clients about suitable CDs for their classes. In 2006 I had arrived in the real MOVE YA! world!

Exhibitions are pure adrenalin. I prefer to be in the middle of the class rooms, sometimes with a step behind the counter to join in with the choreography (Yvi, Frankfurt is waiting for you). After the first day, you're thinking "I'm going to die" (as said by our trainee Marco) and "how am I supposed to survive the following days?" However, when we have built the stand and everyone is saying,"it looks great, good work", then you know, that with this bunch, it will be totally chaotic, but you won't have more fun with any team in the world.

Sven Lawitschka Sven Lawitschka

exhibition stall builder and event technology

On a lovely spring day, I was relaxed and enjoying the sunshine when the phone rang. A nervous MOVE YA! employee said to me, "I'm at FIBO and the exhibition stand builder has left after an hour with the words ‘I have other things to do". I didn't have to go to Essen that time, but in the end but my fate for the next eight years was made in this one call.

Months later, my first exhibition building for MOVE YA! had started in Karlsruhe. Everything went well - the exhibition went well. At about 1:30, when everything was packed away and we wanted to go home, the phone rang again. Frank was on the phone saying, "I have just filled the car with petrol. After some difficulties, I managed to get the hose into the tank hole (everybody knows that gas pump nozzles have different sizes for gas and diesel). When I started the car it just shook". By then, even Mr Baumann realised that he had used diesel instead of gas. He asked us to take him with us. So us two exhibition builders took on the stranded Mr Baumann, his company, Anne and the computer tower (Frank had continued working for his diploma in the hotel). That meant for us, as the car was full, that for the rest of the way (500km) we were overloaded. This tour (including a 4-hour traffic jam) ended the next day at 11 am. and since(remove) I had to go straight to work thinking, "super, this is so much fun, I should stay here. I'll do my civil service some other time."

From that point on, I was always expecting new situations and up to now I've been proved very right.

My mother is a trainer and for years has been a client of MOVE YA! One day she received an email saying that MOVE YA! was looking for a trainee. Because she knows my love for music and because I work part time as a DJ, she thought I could make my passion my profession and said that I should just apply. I did that right away and started a trainee period that led into a sales traineeship.

I'm in my third training year now and love the job. It is a lot of fun to present our music at the different conventions and also play live in classes together with Frank and Andy.

It is the variety, my love for music, band, and most of all (remove) the great staff and the super working atmosphere, which makes me happy every day that I have found my place in this company.

Yvonne Dülsen Yvonne Dülsen

Last year I decided to do a sales traineeship and after many applications to companies, I landed at MOVE YA!

When I first walked into the office, I liked the familiar atmosphere. The company felt "closer" and not so distant as with many other companies. Also, the mixture between music and sport sounded interesting and I agreed to have a trainee period to see if it really "suited". During the long-term trainee periods, I was tested and I made the grade in the beginning of August 2009. I am a real sales trainee!

MOVE YA! is simply a great combination of charming, chaotic, familiar and yet professional. One feels happy and there is always something to laugh about. It never gets boring with us – and I mean NEVER!

It's a great feeling to be part of such a team! We often have wild times, but in the end everything is perfect!

Since I was looking for a traineeship in the area of sales, MOVE YA!´s email they sent suited me perfectly. They were looking for someone like me. I applied right away and was so lucky to get the place.

From October last year, I have supported the team with a lot of fun and eagerness. I mainly do the distribution together with Inge, but I always help where it is needed.

My friend Anna used to work for MOVE YA! and when she had to quit she gave me a call, asking if I didn't want to work for a small but very nice company.

I met with Anke and after a short probation time I've been working on regular terms at MOVE YA! keeping the clean offices spotless.

The whole team is so nice and with Anke I couldn't ask for a better boss. I'm really looking forward to the next years.
